Tanzania has many dive sites located in the Zanzibar archipelago and also on Tanzania lakes. Mafia Island offers over 42 types of coral and over 400 species of fish. It is also an area known for spectacular sightings of Whale Sharks. Pemba Island with incredible wall dives, beautifully colored reefs, and enormous sea fans. Also, North Horn in Pemba Island is known for its great number of Sharks. Nungwi located on the north of Zanzibar Island is the most visited tourist destination due to its coast and beaches and when it comes to diving has nothing to envy to the other destinations. Finally, the lakes in Tanzania offer crystal clear freshwater and on lake Tanganyika you can practice or get some altitude diving expeience.
The best time to dive in Tanzania is between October to March, where you will find diving conditions that have clear and calm waters with good visibility. Make sure to avoid the rainy season (April-June)- which may not be the best time to dive in the island.
